How to beat up a larger attacker | Tactical Rifleman

Ladies and gentlemen the debate is over - size matters. (Be honest, you know there was never any debate). We want to welcome back Ryan and Amber from Fit to Fight®. Today with Imri they are covering considerations for being the smaller or larger person in a confrontation. Instructors face a unique battle of proving that they can get others to do what they can do. This is especially burdensome in the self-defense world. There's little doubt Imri can defend himself, but how can he instruct a smaller person. Ryan and Amber don't look like what you'd expect from a martial arts/self-defense coach, so how are they going to teach about fighting? Understanding what you bring to the table is crucial for your training and protection. That's why we train. To find weaknesses and strengths. Find successes and failures. Develop attributes and control as much of what we can. Having a size and strength advantage can definitely win a fight but that doesn’t mean that being smaller means you’ll lose. It’s about learning your strengths and bigger opponents’ weaknesses and exploiting them. The way to learn that is to train with people bigger than you often. Tiring out a larger attacker works in sports but on the street you don’t want the fight to even last long enough for anyone to get tired. Speed and agility are often on the side of the smaller fighters and those attributes can help getting offline and attacking from outside angles. Fighting from the outside will also help you from getting in a wrestling match with someone who outweighs you, which is typically not a great idea. Learn your targeting. Anatomical targets work the same way on people of any size so map out mobility stopping targets and use them to set up knockout or fight ending targets. So, we hope you enjoyed the video. Watch it again tomorrow; you’ll pick up even more. Watch it with a sparring partner and then focus on the teaching points. Big THANKS to Amber & Ryan from Fit to Fight Republic.
