Special Ops review of the ACSS Mini-ACOG | Tactical Rifleman

ACOG’s have always been great sights. I often used a 4X during my service in the IDF and they were very trustworthy and held zero very well even with quite a bit of abuse. The first ACOG’s we received had no illumination and the reticle was pretty fine so it was hard to see in various lighting conditions. Then we got ones that had the center of the crosshairs illuminated, which helped quite a bit with faster sight acquisition at closer ranges. There have been a lot of improvements on these sights over the years and now there are some amazing ones, especially with the reticle designs. They do take a bit of getting used to if your comfort is with red dot sights because you have to have a good and consistent cheek weld and the eye relief is not great… until the TA-44. The eye relief on this lightweight 1.5x scope is very forgiving and you get a great range. The ACSS reticle from Primary Arms is the icing on the cake. It is easy to pick up for close range stuff and gets you easily on target at AR ranges (up to 500 meters). The ranging portion of the reticle is simple to use and pretty accurate. It’s kind of like the concept the Russians used in the old RPG sights, except simple and effective. Yes, It’s pricey, but definitely worth it for the picture you get and the monotonous reliability.
