That's big for me, because I love old military containers and ammo cans for all my storage needs. Everyone loved Saving Private Ryan. Great movie. The original Call of Duty video game took off and exploded among the 1st-person player gamers because it put gamers right into "Saving Private Ryan." I'm not a big fan of Hollywood types, but Steven Spielberg did a great job with this movie, putting in all the extra attention to get all the fine details correct. So, this week, I wanted to talk about this great movie. However, once we started watching, I realized that I could do a whole review of just the FIRST scene. Graphic as it was, there are still lots of great teaching points that only seasoned veterans will see and grasp. We look past the gore and see the training, rehearsals, commitment, discipline, and sacrifice that these brave souls did for our country and the free world. I chose this video in honor of my neighbor Buck, may he rest in peace. He made the D-Day landing as a "wire-rat," landing on the second wave after the beachhead was secured. Over the years that I had the honor of being his neighbor, he shared only a few glimpses about WW-2. I'm sure he shared more with me than he did many others, including his family. My life is better for having Back as a neighbor, friend, and mentor. I hope you enjoy my review of Saving Private Ryan's first scene. Maybe we'll do a few of the other scenes down the road.
