How to Shoot a Double Action Pistol | Tactical Rifleman

The world has, for the most part, moved away from hammer fired guns. The reason is pretty simple: one consistent trigger pull There are a number of reasons people dislike a double action/single action trigger. For example some people can’t reach the double action pull and it’s too heavy. Some people won’t put the time in to properly learn how to use it. An exposed hammer can create issues as well, like if a foreign object or some mud get in between the hammer and firing pin. While all of that is true, I grew up shooting a double action/single action Sig P228 and never had any sort of problem with it during my service. I feel that as a safety system this setup is wonderful. I also feel that the longer and heavier pull of the trigger on the first shot is a kind of mental confirmation process for whether I truly need to take that shot or not. In future videos we may take a deeper dive into this topic as there are more details to cover but these are the basic principles of how to use this type of gun correctly. It’s a bit challenging at first so the biggest secret is to force yourself to move at an annoyingly slow pace in order to ensure that all the movements and timing are correct.
