The Principles of CQB are Surprise, Speed, and Violence of Action. Ask any Direct Action or Hostage Rescue operator and he'll tell you they live and breath these principles along with team work. However, there are hundreds of other principles, techniques, and standard operating procedures that are constantly at play when conducting close-quarters battle. Several of these focus on exposing as little of the body as possible while engaging the enemy; think hiding/shooting from behind a car or wall, or coming around a corner to a room full of AK-47s... better to be exposed to only one than all of them at a time. Easy concept, that everyone can understand. As you work to fine-tune your combat skills, we get down to the fine details of footwork, balance, and in the case of this video switching eyes. In this video Imri is going to share a skill for more advanced combat shooting. If you are new to pistol shooting, don't waste your time with this video. However, if you are mastered the pistol and have solid "muscle memory" (for my trolls, I know muscles don't have memory) so that your subconscious mind handles manipulation of the firearm, freeing up you conscious mind to deal with the complex problems of CQB; then this video is going to help you out a lot. Imri is going to show you three simple training drills to help you master switching eyes with your pistol. There is no need to switch hands. Rather, instead of bringing the pistol up under your dominant eye, you're gonna bring it up under your non-dominant eye. This allows you to expose only half of your head to enemy fire. Master each training drill in the order Imri presents them and you'll pick this skill up quick. Notes from Karl (Me): 1. Always train with BOTH eyes OPEN, as that's what you are gonna do when in combat. You saying you are gonna close one eye, when you are in "fight or flight", is the same as you saying you are gonna keep you heart rate at 60 beats per minute. 2. You find this easier to do with a optic (another reason to switch to a pistol optic from iron sights). 3. However, even with Iron sights, you'll find it easier when actually pying around a wall/barricade, as only one eye will be able to see the target, letting the brain know that is the correct sight picture. 4. Again, you do not have to switch hands with a pistol when switching eyes. I hope you enjoy the video. Watch it a few times; then get out there on the range and practice the first drill. master it. Then master the second drill. Then, find a barricade or wall to work around. Lastly, find a place where you can participate in force-on-force training. Even a local paintball or airsoft league is better than nothing. You'll then understand the importance of keeping that head behind cover. Strength and Honor, TR.
