How to Shoot Red Dots at Night | Tips & Techniques | Tactical Rifleman

Pistol Optics have been around for a while. Honestly, I believe within 5 years ALL Combat Pistols will have optics on them. Just like a rifle, there are lots of advantages to running a optic on a pistol. However, there are also a few disadvantages. First, and most important, is that many shooters can't "Find the Dot" when they present the pistol in front of their eye. Now, once you practice your presentation, either dryfiring or live, you learn to present the pistol directly in front of your eye, and it will always be there for you... Except for when it isn't. What do I mean by that? Well, most shooters only shoot pew pew on square flat ranges during the day and in decent weather... THat's not us; we believe in "training as you fight" which sounds easy, yet very few actually do it. We are big on shooting odd firing positions under conditions that might be found in combat. Can you be in a gun fight on a sunny day? Yep, however, the odds are stacked that you will not be in a sterile flat-range environment. 90% of all the combat operations that my SF unit were engaged in were during hours of limited visibility. Now, you're not a Green Beret doing ops in Al Fallujah. However, you may find yourself in a "active shooter" incident coming out into a dark parking lot, a mugging outside a bar, or even a Saturday afternoon movie theatre could present you with a situation where you will be required to shoot during limited or zero light conditions.
